Violinist, violist and vocalist

Founder of In Praise of Folly and violist Nicole Miller is an explorer—of music, cultures, and ideas. Originally from the United States, her curiosity has taken her across the globe, living in Spain, France, Italy, Argentina, Russia, and now Brussels, Belgium—a city whose rich intellectual and artistic diversity has inspired her for the past decade.

A lifelong learner, Nicole studied music, mathematics, and languages in Seattle before earning a Master’s in Conference Interpreting in Barcelona. Her professional journey has been just as diverse, spanning roles as a teacher, interpreter, web developer, and violinist. Ultimately, her passion for the viola led her to pursue a Bachelor’s and Master’s at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp under Leo De Neve.

Nicole’s adventurous spirit is equally reflected in her music. She moves fluidly between classical, folk, world, jazz, and tango, performing in settings that range from intimate chamber halls to dynamic rock stages. Her collaborations include performances with Lincoln Center Stage, Trash à Cordes, Juan Quintero, Gerardo di Giusto, Gus Ecclesia, Philémon le chien qui ne voulait pas grandir, Isildurs Bane, and Marillion.

In her search to bridge the often insular world of classical music with the genres she loves, Nicole founded In Praise of Folly, a string quartet dedicated to blending musical traditions. She is particularly fascinated by the evolving role of string instruments in both classical and popular music, continuously exploring new ways to connect these worlds.

Most recently, Nicole has been an integral member of The Aquatic Museum, a chamber pop ensemble that merges storytelling with lush, cinematic soundscapes. This latest project showcases her passion for genre-crossing collaborations and innovative string arrangements.
